JAMMU, APR 12: The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is set to commence on July 3, 2026, and will conclude on August 28, 2026, coinciding with the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan.
The announcement was made by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who highlighted the spiritual and logistical preparations for one of the most significant pilgrimages in India.
The Yatra, which attracts lakhs of devotees from across the country, will span 57 days this year, allowing pilgrims ample time to undertake the journey to the holy cave shrine in the Himalayas.
The pilgrimage will formally begin with the Pratham Puja scheduled on June 29, 2026, marking the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima.
This ritual is performed to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva before the commencement of the Yatra.
The Amarnath cave shrine, situated at a high altitude in Jammu and Kashmir, houses the naturally formed ice Shivling, which is revered by devotees as a manifestation of Lord Shiva.
The Yatra holds immense religious significance and is considered a journey of faith, devotion, and endurance.
To facilitate a smooth pilgrimage, the administration has announced that advance registration will begin from April 15, 2026. Pilgrims can register through both online and offline modes.
For offline registration, 554 designated branches of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, and Yes Bank across the country have been authorized to process applications.
The move aims to streamline the registration process and manage the large influx of pilgrims efficiently.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of early registration and adherence to official guidelines to ensure safety and proper crowd management during the Yatra.
Given the challenging terrain, unpredictable weather conditions, and high altitude of the pilgrimage route, all necessary arrangements related to security, healthcare, transportation, and accommodation are being planned in advance.
Devotees have been urged to follow advisories, undergo mandatory health checks, and prepare adequately for the journey to ensure a safe and spiritually fulfilling experience.
